WELCOME
TO MY WORLD (LP) Brief History : Welcome to My World was the title of a compilation album by Elvis Presley that was released by RCA Records in early 1977, just months before his death. According to Elvis: The Illustrated Record by Roy Carr and Mick Farren, all but one track on this album had been previously released (one track, "Your Cheatin' Heart", dated back 20 years). The only previously unissued recording is "I Can't Stop Loving You" which was taken from a 1972 performance in New York City that as of 1977 had not yet been released. (It later appeared on CD as An Afternoon in the Garden.) It was certified gold on September 30, 1977 and platinum on January 14, 1983 by the RIAA. Front Cover : Photo of Elvis. Title on top. MOODY
BLUE (LP) (US) RCA AFL1 2428 Released: July 1977 Side 1 Unchained Melody *** If You Love Me (Let Me Know) **** Little Darlin' *** He'll Have To Go ** Let Me Be There (From Live On Stage In Memphis 20/3/74) Side 2 Way Down Pledging My Love Moody Blue She Thinks I Still Care It's Easy For You * * Recorded: Graceland, Memphis, October
29, 1976 Brief History : As described in Elvis: The Illustrated Record, RCA was not able to obtain sufficient new studio material for a complete album, with all but six songs of Presley's studio recordings of 1976 having already been used in the previous album, From Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee. The company chose to augment the remaining available works with three live songs recorded in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on April 24 and 26, 1977, including his version of "Unchained Melody" which was the album's third single, released posthumously. RCA and the producer Felton Jarvis had booked a recording studio in Nashville, Tennessee, for January 1977, to record some new tracks for this album. Presley had chosen a few songs to record with the help of Jarvis, most of them were rather country and uptempo. Unfortunately, Presley never showed up at that session, claiming that he was sick and thus staying home (an excuse that Presley used rather frequently during the 1960s to avoid recording poor soundtracks for his motion pictures). Jarvis and RCA had nothing left to do but to fill the album with the live tracks mentioned above. Also included is a live performance of "Let Me Be There" which had already been released three years earlier on his album Elvis: As Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis. The song Moody Blue was released as a single in December 1976 and it reached number one on the Billboard Country Singles Chart, and #31 on the pop chart. "Way Down" was released as the album's next single during the early summer of 1977. It did not go very far up the chart, but it soared to #18 after Presley's death in August (jumping to number one in the U.K.) It was a bigger hit on the country charts, and it had risen to number one in the same week of the death of Presley. This album reached number three on the Billboard album charts after his death, although it had already entered the top 40 before he died. This was the last album by Presley to reach the TOP 40. Moody Blue was also a number one album on the Country Albums chart. Moody Blue was published on July 19, 1977, and it peaked on the album chart in August 1977. RCA pressed the album on blue vinyl, to match the title track. Since colored vinyl pressings were relatively rare, and they almost never occurred in a wide release, this has led to collectors mistakenly assuming that blue-vinyl albums of Moody Blue are collectors' items, when in fact the true collectables are pressings from immediately before Presley's death on standard black vinyl. (Immediately following his death, the production of Moody Blue was shifted back to blue vinyl. However, in some later years the album was produced using standard black vinyl). Following Presley's death, "Unchained Melody" was also released as a single, and it peaked at #6 on the country music charts. The original CD issue had the standard songs of the original. The CD reissue of the year 2000 revised the cover art including a different concert photo of Elvis, omitted the track "Let Me Be There", due to its presence on Elvis: As Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis, and it added the complete album From Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee as tracks 10-19 - in effect compiling the Graceland sessions rather than reissuing the album. It was certified Gold and Platinum on 9/12/1977 and 2x Platinum on 3/27/1992 by the RIAA. Front Cover : Photo of Elvis. Title on top. Catalogue

Recorded: Civic Auditorium Arena, Omaha, Nebraska, June
19, 1977 Brief History : Elvis in Concert is the title of the soundtrack album released in conjunction with the television special of the same name which featured some of the final performances of Elvis Presley. Videotaped and recorded in June 1977, both the special and album were broadcast and released on October 3, 1977, (the single "My Way"/"America the Beautiful" was also released that day too) two months after Presley's death. The album peaked to #5 on the Billboard chart in the fall of 1977. It was certified Gold and Platinum on 10/14/1977 and 3x Platinum on 8/1/2002 by the RIAA. The show was recorded over two days at concerts in Omaha on June 19 and Rapid City, South Dakota on the 21st. Longtime RCA/Elvis producer Felton Jarvis produced the recordings, which were done to 4-track multitrack. According to Elvis: The Illustrated Record by Roy Carr and Mick Farren, the shows were taped with the intent of producing a television special, but Presley's deteriorating physical condition put the project on hold. After his death, they write, it was decided to go ahead with the special as a tribute. Although both the June 19th and 21st concerts are the last official live professional one's ever recorded of Presley alive, Vernon Presley, Elvis' father, recorded a message that was broadcast at the end of the special and included on the soundtrack album, in which he erroneously states that the performance featured was his son's last appearance; in fact Elvis made five more concert appearances after the filming of the special. Elvis' last concert was in fact on Sunday, June 26, 1977 at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana. No professional recording of this last performance has ever been issued, but bootlegs of amateur recordings have. During the special, Presley performs a selection of his hits, along with songs not normally associated with him. Although it was a regular part of his repertoire for years, Presley requires a lyric sheet when he performs Paul Anka's "My Way" (noted for its opening lyric, "And now the end is near/And so I face the final curtain"). He also loses his train of thought during "Are You Lonesome Tonight?", although Darrin Memmer's book "Elvis Presley - The 1977 CBS Television Special," published in 2001 by Morris Publishing, makes a strong case that Elvis regularly played around with the words during the spoken portion of the song when performing it on stage, rather than it being a case of poor memory. Indeed a concert recording of Presley similarly joking around during the monologue section of "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" dating from 1969 has been issued by RCA on numerous occasions (dubbed the "Laughing Version", it even made the UK charts after Presley's death), and he also poked fun at the song during his 1968 Comeback Special. The soundtrack album was issued as a 2-LP package, including a second disc of performances that were not included in the TV special. It was also released on 8-track. On May 22, 1992, the special saw its first release on a single-disc CD. Unfortunately the CD barely improved on the somewhat muffled sound quality of the original album.
