June 4, 1970 Brief History : Elvis Country (I'm 10,000 Years Old) is the thirty-seventh studio album by Elvis Presley, released on RCA Records (LSP 4460 in January 1971). Recorded at RCA Studio B in Nashville, it reached #12 on the Billboard 200. It was certified Gold on 12/1/1977 by the RIAA. It peaked at #6 in the United Kingdom, selling over one million copies worldwide. The lead single for the album, "I Really Don't Want to Know" b/w "There Goes My Everything" was released on December 8, 1970 and peaked at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100. The bulk of the album came from five days of recording sessions in June 1970 which yielded 35 usable tracks. Presley performed every track "live", recording his vocal part in the same take as the band as was standard practice for him. Eight tracks from the session were released two months earlier in November 1970 on the That's the Way It Is album. During the sessions, Presley and producer Felton Jarvis realized they had several country songs in hand, and decided to record several more to create a full album of country material. Needing two more satisfactory tracks, Elvis returned to the same studio in September where he recorded "Snowbird" and a manic, one-take version of "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin On." Along with his second LP, Elvis' Christmas Album, Elvis Is Back!, and From Elvis in Memphis, "Elvis Country" stands as one of Presley's cohesive musical works - the closest he came to concept albums, a mere handful from his large catalogue. Nearly every style of country music is represented; bluegrass, honky tonk, Western swing, rockabilly, countrypolitan, and even the then-nascent "outlaw" movement. Snippets of the song "I Was Born About Ten Thousand Years Ago" act as a bridge between each track to enhance the sense of continuity. After this album, Presley would return to his usual practice of recording a seemingly random batch of songs on each trip to the recording studio, letting his producer assemble them into albums. LETTERS FROM ELVIS (LP) (US) RCA LSP 4530 Released: June 1971 Side 1 Love Letters (1970) **** When I'm Over You **** If I Were You ***** Got My Mojo Working - Keep Your Hands Off Of It ** Heart Of Rome *** Side 2 Only Believe This Is Our Dance *** Cindy, Cindy * I'll Never Know *** It Ain't No Big Thing (But It's Growing) *** Life * Recorded:
RCA Studio B, Nashville, June 4, 1970 Brief History : Love Letters from Elvis is a 1971 studio album by Elvis Presley. The album was made up of leftovers from Elvis' marathon June 1970 recording sessions in Nashville. Most of the other 35 songs recorded during those sessions had been used in Elvis' 1970 albums That's the Way It Is and Elvis Country (I'm 10,000 Years Old). Wanting to squeeze out a third album from the sessions, RCA records had producer Felton Jarvis mix, overdub and compile the remaining songs. However, few of the songs had the rock, country, or gospel feel that inspired Elvis to his greatest performances. As a result the album was critically panned upon release, and failed to crack the top 20 of the Billboard album charts. The song's title track was a rare instance of Presley re-recording a past hit in the studio, his original version of "Love Letters" having been released as a single in 1966. "Got My Mojo Working" is edited down from an impromptu jam session; Presley's version incorporates lyrics from "Hands Off", a 1955 song by Frankie Castro released on the Wing record label (RCA often mislabelled this song "Keep Your Hands Off of It" when the complete jam was issued on CD years later). Three songs from this album were released on singles. The single "Life / Only Believe" was released in March 1971 and reached only #53 on the US Billboard Singles chart. It was Elvis's lowest chart position for a single since "Almost in Love" had reached #95 in late 1968. "Heart Of Rome" was placed on the B-side of the non-album track "I'm Leavin'" released as a single in August 1971. Front Cover : 3 Photos of Elvis. Title top centre. Catalogue

This particular release may well be 1977 when the "AFL1" prefix came about, using old stock and applying sticker. But I am classing this as LSP. RCA silver sticker covers orignal prifix on front cover. It is under the shrink. On the labels RCA silver stickers cover "VICTOR". In trail off wax letters "UL" are hand ecthed next to "I" for Indianapolis which is crossed through. I would say this old stock came from the Indianapolis pressing plant be classed as "AFL1". Two previously unissued recordings are included: "Let Us Pray" from the soundtrack of Presley's 1969 film, Change of Habit and "Who Am I?", a leftover from the early-1969 recording sessions that produced his album From Elvis in Memphis.
Catalogue

I
GOT LUCKY (LP) Brief History : I Got Lucky is a compilation album by Elvis Presley. The album, released in October 1971, is a follow-up to the "C'mon Everybody" album as it features the remaining tracks from the soundtrack EP's (previously unissued on LP) of the same four films from the first compilation plus one non-movie/non-LP track. It was certified Gold on 1/6/2004 and Platinum on 9/15/2011 by the RIAA. Front Cover : Photo of Elvis. Title top right. Catalogue
number top left. Camden top left. *NOTE* Rear cover number "2" bottom right. Copyright – RCA Records This is for an RCA Records Indianapolis pressing of the CAL-2533 catalog number. This release has the blue RCA Camden labels and a cover code "2" printed on the back bottom right corner of the cover. The first catalog number appears on the spine, front and back covers and labels. The second catalog number appears on the bottom left corner of the back cover. This release is very similar in label and cover composition (aside from the lack of a printed cover code) to Elvis Presley - I Got Lucky. Matrix / Runout (Side A label): ACRM-5837 |
