ELVIS SINGS FLAMING STAR (LP)
(US) Camden CAS 2304
Released: March 28, 1969

Same Track Listing as released on

Singer Presents Elvis Singing
Flaming Star and Others

Singer Presents Elvis Singing Flaming Star and Others is the thirty-third album by Elvis Presley, released on RCA Records in stereo, PRS 279, in October 1968. It spent five months available only at select retail stores featuring products by the Singer Sewing Machine Company as a promotional tie-in with Presley's upcoming Christmas television special on the NBC network, which Singer had sponsored.

On a further note linked with this release, was a 8" x 10" photo distributed along with the LP. If you are one of the lucky ones to have this photo along with the LP it will add greatly to the value.

All tracks were compiled from sessions for Presley film soundtracks, with the exception of "Tiger Man" from the Singer Christmas Special. The cover of Chuck Berry's "Too Much Monkey Business" was a warm-up at a session for film songs to Stay Away, Joe. Excepting "Flaming Star," the title song from Presley's 1960 movie of the same title which had been released on the Elvis by Request extended play single in February 1961, all tracks were previously unreleased.

The "Texas" medley and "All I Needed Was the Rain" appeared in Viva Las Vegas (1964) and Stay Away, Joe (1967), respectively, while "Wonderful World" appeared over the opening credits to Live A Litte, Love A Little (1968). "Flaming Star" had been one of only two songs performed in that film. The live performance of "Tiger Man" was held off the initial broadcast of the NBC television special, but replaced the segment with "Blue Christmas" for the repeat broadcast of the special in the summer of 1969. This track has the distinction of being the first live recording by Elvis ever commercially released. The remaining songs were not actually used in their respective films.

Brief History :
From Elvis in Memphis is the thirty-fifth album by American rock and roll icon Elvis Presley, released on RCA Records LSP 4155, in June 1969. Recorded at American Sound Studio in Memphis, between January 13–16 and 20–23, and February 17–22, 1969. The recording of the album was a consequence of the success of Elvis Presley's 1968 Christmas television special and its soundtrack, and marked the definite return of Presley to non-soundtrack albums, after finishing his movie contract with Paramount Pictures. Motivated by his early influences in country, rhythm and blues, gospel and soul, the latest music trend in Memphis, Presley chose to record his next songs at the American Sound Studio, directed by music producer Chips Moman.

Nearly half of the recordings from the sessions were not released on this album, but were instead released on the double album From Memphis to Vegas/From Vegas to Memphis in October of the same year (see 1969 in music).

The album peaked at #13 on the Billboard 200 and #1 in United Kingdom, and has been certified Gold on 1/28/1970 by the RIAA. In 2003, the album was ranked number 190 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Brief History :
From Memphis to Vegas/From Vegas to Memphis is the thirty-sixth album by Elvis Presley, released in October 1969 on RCA Records, catalogue LSP 6020. Recording sessions took place at American Sound Studio in Memphis, on January 13–15 and 21-22, and February 17–18, 1969, and at the International Hotel in Paradise, Nevada on August 24–26, 1969. It peaked at #12 on the Billboard 200, and has been certified Gold on 12/13/1969 by the RIAA.

Issued to capitalize upon the response to From Elvis in Memphis and its hit singles, and his newfound success as a headliner in Las Vegas, Vegas/Memphis is Presley's first double album and his first official live album The Colonel secured a month-long engagement at the International Hotel, and in keeping with the clear-the-decks philosophy of the previous album, Presley jettisoned his long-serving 1960s sidemen in favor of musicians who would become his Taking Care of Business band. The musicians used on the second lp were assembled by Chips Moman dating back from early 1969 at the American Sound Studios sessions in Memphis.

The first album consisted of recordings from those shows, Elvis' first live performances since his March 1961 benefit concert in Hawaii. Oldies from his 1950s repertoire appeared alongside a cover of "Words" by The Bee Gees and an extended version of "Suspicious Minds."

The second album consisted of ten recordings from the winter of 1969 sessions at American Sound not used for From Elvis in Memphis. Although drawn from what were basically leftovers, still "Stranger in My Hometown" equaled the intensity of the already issued songs. Of these remainders, "The Fair's Moving On" and "You'll Think of Me" had previously appeared as b-sides respectively to "Clean Up Your Own Backyard" and "Suspicious Minds" earlier in the year.
