Brief History :
Girl Happy is the twenty-second album by Elvis Presley, released on RCA Victor Records in mono and stereo, LPM/LSP 3338, in March 1965 - the March 1 date is disputed. Recording sessions took place at Radio Recorders in Hollywood, California, on June 10, 11, 12, and vocal overdubs by Presley on June 15, 1964. It peaked at #8 on the Top Pop Albums chart. It was certified Gold on 7/15/1999 by the R.I.A.A.

Excluding the singles compilation Elvis' Golden Records Volume 3, this was the sixth original Presley album in a row that was a soundtrack to a feature film. Eleven songs were recorded and all were used, with "The Meanest Girl in Town" originally released as "Yeah, She's Evil!" by Bill Haley & His Comets and released on Decca Records in July 1964, though Haley actually recorded his version six days after Presley. An error in mastering resulted in Presley's voice being sped up on several of the recordings, most notably the title track. RCA finally released a corrected version of the title track in its 1991 compilation Collectors Gold from the Movie Years.

"Do the Clam" was released approximately a month ahead of the album as a single, peaking at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remaining on the chart for eight weeks. Its b-side derived from the March 18, 1962 sessions for Pot Luck with Elvis, an unused track written by Presley with Memphis Mafia entourage members Red West and Charlie Hodge, "You'll Be Gone." A variant on the Cole Porter standard "Begin the Beguine," when Porter denied permission to alter the lyrics, a new song was drafted using the Porter tune and lyric as a template. Not appearing in the film, it was added to the Girl Happy soundtrack album.

At the end of 1965, RCA released the soundtrack album for Elvis's third movie of the year, "Harum Scarum". Due to the fact that none of the songs included in that album had any single potential, RCA chose "Puppet On A String" backed with the five year old "Wooden Heart" for the Christmas single. Although "Puppet On A String" had already been available on the "Girl Happy" soundtrack album for months, that song still managed to reach #14 on the Billboard HOT 100.

Album Title : Elvis For Everyone
Catalogue Number : LPM - 3450
Year Release : 10th August 1965

Brief History : Elvis for Everyone! is the twenty-third album by Elvis Presley, issued on RCA Victor in mono and stereo, LPM/LSP 3450, in August 1965. Recording sessions took place over a ten-year span at Sun Studio in Memphis, RCA Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee, and Radio Recorders in Hollywood, California. It peaked at #10 on the Top Pop Albums chart.

Sessions in late May 1963 failed to coalesce into his fifth studio album of the 1960s, and by 1965 Presley's musical output had been focused exclusively on his movie career and soundtrack output. He had not released a proper studio album since Pot Luck with Elvis in June 1962, although seven non-movie singles had been issued since. RCA invented the concept of an "Anniversary Album" to celebrate Presley's tenth year on their label, which became Elvis For Everyone. Given the cover depicting Elvis standing next to the RCA mascot Nipper sitting atop a cash register, one can infer exactly what this album would be celebrating. Since May 1963, Presley had only made one non-movie session in January 1964 that yielded a mere three tracks, two of which had already been issued as sides for singles. Bereft of new material, RCA assembled this album from unused tracks going all the way back to the Sun Records years, from sessions for both soundtracks and regular commercial releases. Possibly owing to its assembly from scraps and rejects, although it made the top ten on the LP chart, it was the first Presley album to sell fewer than 300,000 copies during the decade.

Of the tracks on the album only "Summer Kisses, Winter Tears," recorded for but not used in the film Flaming Star, had previously been issued, on the extended play single Elvis By Request. Several tracks had appeared on film, but had not been issued on record before. "In My Way" had appeared in the 1961 film Wild in the Country, "Sound Advice" in the 1962 film Follow That Dream, and the traditional Neapolitan ballad "Santa Lucia" in the 1964 outing Viva Las Vegas. The remaining eight tracks had been unissued in any form. The Sun ballad "Tomorrow Night" had overdubs added for release on this album; it would not be officially issued in its original form for another two decades on the first attempt at an exhaustive Sun compilation, The Complete Sun Sessions in 1987.

RCA had intended to include the unreleased Sun Records track "Tennessee Saturday Night," but withdrew it from the album and replaced it with "Tomorrow Night". Neither has reference to a Presley Sun recording with this title ever been mentioned in any other source, nor has a Presley Sun recording with this title ever been discovered, although a song entitled "Tennessee Saturday Night" was slated for Loving You but not recorded.

In its format as a compilation of mostly unissued leftovers from various sessions, and given its rather short running time, this album anticipated the Presley budget releases with a similar concept that would appear during the late 1960s and early 1970s on the RCA Camden label. RCA opted not to include it as part of its reissue program, appending its songs as bonus tracks to other albums as appropriate, with the overdubbed version of "Tomorrow Night" being ultimately replaced by the original Sun Records master version in general circulation.

Brief History : Harum Scarum is the twenty-fourth album by Elvis Presley, released on RCA Victor Records in mono and stereo, LPM/LSP 3468, in November 1965. Recording sessions took place at RCA Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee, on February 24, 25, and 26, 1965. It peaked at #8 on the Top Pop Albums chart.

Although 1965 had seen the release of a studio album in Elvis for Everyone, it was back to the grind of making soundtracks. Elvis continued to grumble about the material and the continued pressure put on the stable of songwriters corraled by Freddy Bienstock — the writing team of Giant, Baum, and Kaye alone had provided 17 of 47 songs on the past four soundtracks in an eighteen-month period — but he soldiered on with as much grace as possible. In reality, almost any song could have been squeezed into the story lines, including old classics. But as long as sales continued, the formula required guaranteed control of publishing and new songs by the same songwriters. However, Presley's sales were plunging in music stores as well as ticket sales at the box office.

Eleven songs were recorded for Harum Scarum, and all were used and issued on the soundtrack with two of the tracks omitted in the film. As with Roustabout, no singles were issued in conjunction with the album. A single was issued a month later, using the leftover 1957 track "Tell Me Why" backed with "Blue River" from the aborted May 1963 sessions. In an ominous sign of things to come, it only made it to #33 on the Billboard Hot 100, the lowest charting single of Presley's career to date.
