MGM Records was started by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film
studio in late 1946, for the purpose of releasing soundtrack
albums of their musical films.
In the early 1950s, MGM Records was considered one of the major
record companies (besides Columbia, RCA, Decca, Capitol, Mercury
and Coral) and had its own manufacturing facilities
Distribution In Germay, distribution was by Electrola
up to December 1958.
Distribution switched to Polydor (Dutsche Gramophon) in
July 1959.
TWith the start of 61001, a new sleeve layout was designed for
MGM, Brunswick and Coral.
