The Australian subsidiary of the US label. Prior to the appearance of Festival’s Atlantic label in 1963, all Atlantic products were released on London Records until 1962, then on London-Atlantic. Festival reserved the Atlantic for Soul & R+B music. Around 1973 the label was taken over by Warner Bros. Group later to be amalgamated into the WEA group. WEA issued the Atlantic label using the original US design and the US designed sleeve also releasing more general pop music rather than just R+B. There were some Australian acts recorded on Atlantic until the invention of the WEA label.
