Polydor used many different number series. Two series started in 1969, the 14000 series and the 15000 series with artists jumping from one series to another without any rhyme or reason. In 1980 the numbers switched to a 2000 series, OR used a seven digit international number, artists flipping between both series. By 1984 the 2000 series ends and the label was using international numbers only.
Polydor Records was originally an independent branch of the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft. Its name was first used as an export label in 1924. Polydor became a popular music label in 1946 while the famously yellow Deutsche Grammophon seal became a classical music label. Polydor started in the US in June 1969, one of the  the last places on the planet to get the label. In 1972, Polydor merged with giant Philips-owned Phonogram Records to create PolyGram in the US. The Polydor label continued to run as a subsidiary label under the new company.
