Manhattan Records was founded in 1984 by Bruce Lundvall. The label was renamed EMI-Manhattan in 1987 after absorbing the catalogues of EMI-America and Liberty. 
Manhattan folded in 1992 and it's artists moved to parent label Capitol. 
Manhattan was  re-launched in 2001 as an EMI jazz subsidiary.
