American Universal City Records (UNI) was established in 1966 by MCA Inc. executive Ned Tanen and music industry veteran Russ Regan. In 1971, Uni was merged with two other MCA subsidiaries, Kapp Records and the American Decca Records, to form MCA Records. The Decca, Kapp and Uni labels continued to be used for new releases for a short time, until late 1972.
In the UK, the label lasted from 1968 until 1973, at which point it was shelved and its artists were transferred to its parent label, MCA Records.
