Deconstruction Records was founded in 1987 by Pete Hadfield and Keith Blackhurst. According to DJ Magazine it is "best remembered for marrying underground credibility and diversity with an open-minded attitude towards pop". Mike Pickering of M Peoplelater joined the label as A&R.  In 1993, the owner's personal shareholdinng was purchased by BMG, and the label closed a few years later.  Quote from Peter Hadfield: "They could not make it work without us".
