Platinum was founded by Joe and Sylvia Robinson in Engelwood, New Jersey,
USA in 1968. All Platinum purchased Chess Records in the early 1970s
after the latter fell into bankruptcy.
In Britain, the label didn't appear until 1975.
All Platinum folded at the end of the Disco boom, but the Robinsons went on to greater things when they started Sugar Hill Records in 1979 and helped start the Hip Hop revolution.
